The City of Albemarle will conduct a public input and informational session on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Ray Allen Community Room of the City Hall regarding a proposed Commercial Maintenance Code. If adopted, a Commercial Maintenance Code would establish minimum structural standards and requirements for commercial buildings. Depending on outcomes from the meeting and options selected, the Code could potentially address aesthetic issues as well.
The purpose of the meeting is to educate the public on what such a code is and is not, and to address questions the public may have. It is the intention of the City to work with building owners to the greatest extent possible and to develop plans and timelines for improvements if action is required. If some level of standards are adopted, compliance would become a requirement and a Commercial Maintenance Code would also establish procedures for addressing non-compliance.
The draft code can be viewed at the following link – https://www.albemarlenc.gov/Home/ShowDocument?id=3612
The general public is invited and welcome to attend and no RSVP is needed.
