Albemarle Christmas Parade 2019 FAQ’s

Q: Forecast is calling for rain. Will the parade be cancelled?

A: No. As this parade takes place during a winter month, inclement weather conditions are not only expected, but are typical on the day of this event. Please plan accordingly. If you plan to walk/be exposed to the elements, we recommend you dress accordingly.

Q: When and where do we line up?

A: Parade lineup takes place at the YMCA Park. The Park is located in the block across from the Stanly Co. Family YMCA at 427 N. 1st St. Streets will start to be closed off around 10 am; I would recommend getting in place no later than 9:45.

Entry numbers are labeled on orange traffic cones around the park; you should be able to find your place by matching your assigned entry number to the traffic cone with the same number. The only exception to this is if you have reserved a professional float. Floats for Santa and the Grand Marshals will be located at the north side of the park on CB Crook Drive, the others in front of the YMCA Park.

If you have difficulty finding your location, look for an Albemarle Police Officer. Officers will have lineup lists and can assist you with getting in your spot.

Q: Can we throw candy?

A: YES! We are thrilled that the ban on throwing candy has been lifted (thank you, Albemarle City Council). Please be mindful of spectators’ safety when tossing candy.

Q: We’re a talent group (dance, music, etc.) and would like to stop intermittently to put on a show for parade spectators. Is this allowed?

A: We love that you want to entertain our crowd! We don’t mind a quick stop at key intersections for a few seconds, but please, do not leave a large gap (more than ¼ block) between you and the neighbor in front of you. Also, for safety, please keep at least a gap of 20 feet distance (at least two car lengths) between yourself and your neighbors.
