Purpose of the Design Committee
The Design Committee plays a key role in shaping the physical image of Downtown as a place that is attractive to shoppers, investors, business owners, and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the committee chair to prepare an annual plan of work and budget for the committee
- Review all Façade Grant applications upon receipt. Make recommendations as needed
- Work with the City of Albemarle to guide the future growth and impact of the district through changes in policies and ordinances
- Continue to review and expand the visual and functional enhancements in the ADDC service area
- Promote awareness of downtown design and historic preservation issues throughout the community and monitor design changes throughout downtown
- Continue to raise funds for the downtown plantings with the Holiday Tour of Homes event
Current Projects
- Planning the Tour of Homes event
- Assisting the City of Albemarle Planning and Community Development Department with a suggested building maintenance code
- Awarding downtown businesses with a “Downtown Business Award“
- Raising funds to continue the Facade Grant Program
