Design Committee

Are you into design and architecture?  Do you love to beautify the places you frequent?   If the answer is yes, then we need you to help us beautify Downtown Albemarle!

Purpose of the Design Committee

The Design Committee plays a key role in shaping the physical image of Downtown as a place that is attractive to shoppers, investors, business owners, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the committee chair to prepare an annual plan of work and budget for the committee
  2. Review all Façade Grant applications upon receipt.  Make recommendations as needed
  3. Work with the City of Albemarle to guide the future growth and impact of the district through changes in policies and ordinances
  4. Continue to review and expand the visual and functional enhancements in the ADDC service area
  5. Promote awareness of downtown design and historic preservation issues throughout the community and monitor design changes throughout downtown
  6. Continue to raise funds for the downtown plantings with the Holiday Tour of Homes event

Current Projects

  1. Planning the Tour of Homes event
  2. Assisting the City of Albemarle Planning and Community Development Department with a suggested building maintenance code
  3. Awarding downtown businesses with a “Downtown Business Award
  4. Raising funds to continue the Facade Grant Program
